Liberal economics-helping the working class since the dawn of it’s creation…..or maybe not.

Anyone proficient in basic math, or wealthy enough to afford a basic four-function calculator, can see that liberal states pushing high state taxes, regulations, and licensing fees isn’t economically feasible for a small business. California is a great example of this. Owning a small business in this state is nearly impossible, and owning a startup is even more difficult. But how does this look in real life? Michael Suede writes about the process of starting a hot dog stand and his adventure will surely give you a headache.

Comissary, Propane, Business Insurance, Permits, Cart Upkeep/Cost, Health Insurance, QuickBooks, Car Insurance, Car Payment, Food/Living, Gasoline, Rent/Utilities, Sales Tax, Income Tax, CC Transaction Fee, Price per Hot Dogs, Manager License, and Food Handler’s License- all expenses you would incur operating a standard hot dog cart in California. If this list frightens you, don’t worry, If you’re a successful entrepreneur and sell 100 hot dogs a day you will only be losing $4,851.67 a year. Even after all of this you will be subject to deal with ridiculous regulations and work your way through the state-level bureaucracy to be approved for the most basic of business decisions. Even deciding to change your cart route or location must first be reported to the county for approval.

After reading Suede’s article and seeing how the numbers break down, it’s hard to understand the liberal view point. Substituting this atrocious bureaucracy for that of a more laissez faire approach would certainly boost economic growth and help the working class to achieve the American dream. Who knew “talking about freedom” would involve so many charges?
