In todays class we had a mock trial that was about Regency v. Bakke. Bakke claimed that the university was being racist and violating his constitutional rights because they were discriminating based on race.
However, regency claims that he isn’t correct and that they are able to do this. Regency claims this helps black people not compete with the whites. Regency said they should get access into schools since their parents were once slaves- or their grandparents. Regency began a special admissions program to compensate for past events. A mostly minority comity was set in place to achieve balance and equality in the circumstances for blacks.
Furthermore, Regency claims that affirmative action helps blacks to gain equal rights. They claim this is necessary for equality.
